Gonzaga women picked to finish first in WCC preseason polls

The Gonzaga Bulldogs women’s basketball team was picked to finish first in the WCC preseason poll, which came out on Wednesday morning.

Lisa Fortier’s squad received nine first place votes, the maximum possible amount as coaches are not allowed to vote for their own program. Fortier’s vote went to the Portland Pilots, who finished second in the poll ahead of the BYU Cougars.

In addition to being preseason favorites, the Zags also have three players on the preseason All-WCC team, the most of any program.

Gonzaga’s three representatives are senior guards Kayleigh and Kaylynne Truong and junior forward Yvonne Ejim.

Ejim earned All-WCC Second Team honors and WCC Sixth Woman of the Year as a sophomore, averaging 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds. Kayleigh Truong was named to the All-WCC First Team last season.

Gonzaga, Portland, and BYU are the top three schools in the preseason poll, followed by San Francisco, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, LMU, Santa Clara, Pacific, and Pepperdine.
