Gonzaga Bulldogs forward Anamaria Virjoghe became the third Zag to sign a professional contract overseas this offseason, inking a deal with Esperides Kallitheas in the Greek Women’s League.
Abby O’Connor also signed a contract in Greece, with Niki Lekfadas, while Cierra Walker signed in New Zealand with Mainland Pouakai.
Virjoghe spent three years in a Gonzaga uniform, coming over from NAIA Northwest Christian where she averaged 15.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game while leading NCU to their first ever NAIA National Championship appearance.
The native Romanian started 34 out of 35 games last season, averaging 19 minutes per contest along with 3.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
Coach Lisa Fortier continues to find hidden gems out on the recruiting trail, and while players like Virjoghe aren’t necessarily atop opposing team’s scouting report they play a valuable role in helping this team continue to earn single-digit seeds in the NCAA tournament.
