Is Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren going to take home an ESPY this year?

The 2022 ESPY awards are set to take place on Wednesday evening from 5-8 PM PT at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, and for the second year in a row the Gonzaga Bulldogs could have a big winner.

Chet Holmgren is among the four nominees for best male college athlete, alongside Bryce Young (Alabama football) Dante Polvara (Georgetown men’s soccer) and Logan Wisnauskas (Maryland lacrosse).

Last year, Gonzaga won the award for Best Game for their overtime victory over the UCLA Bruins – a win punctuated by Jalen Suggs’ heroic game-winning three pointer from just inside half court.

Holmgren, if he wins, would be the first individual Zag to win an ESPY award in program history. Even getting nominated is a tremendous accomplishment, although it is not surprising after he was the talk of college hoops last season while helping to lead Gonzaga to another No. 1 overall seed and their seventh straight Sweet 16 appearance.

The ESPYS help to raise awareness and funds for the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the charity founded by ESPN and late basketball coach Jim Valvano at the first ESPYS in 1993. ESPN has helped raise more than $134 million for the V Foundation over the past 28 years, according to ESPN.
